Rink Size:  Oval, 200 x 85 feet

 

Eligibility requirements (as stated in the Compete with U.S. competition manual):

The competition is open to ALL skaters who are current eligible (ER 1.00) members of either the Basic Skills Program and/or are full members of U.S. Figure Skating. To be eligible, skaters must have submitted a membership application or be a member in good standing. Members of other organizations are eligible to compete but must be registered with the host Basic Skills Program/Club or any other Basic Skills Program/Club. 

 

Eligibility will be based on skill level as of closing date of entries. All Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills skaters through Basic 8 must skate at highest level passed and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or Individual Dances.  Skaters in other events may skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both levels in the same event during the same competition.

Please note: If a skater competes at a non-qualifying competition in a “Beginner or No Test” category, then that skater must compete at the equivalent or higher level in a Basic Skills approved competition.

Music: Music must be provided by the skater/coach on either cassette tape or CD to be turned in at registration (NO CD-RW’s).  The tape or CD must be clearly labeled with the competitor’s name, and event for which the music is intended.  Please record only one track on the tape or CD.  Please bring more than one copy of music in case of an emergency.

Closing date for entries is Monday April 5, 2010.  All entries must be postmarked on or before this date.  Only entries with payment will be accepted.  Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Committee, and will require an additional late fee of $20.  The Committee reserves the right to limit entries.   No Refunds will be granted except for events cancelled by the Local Organizing Committee or with a doctor’s note.

$10 for Each Additional Event.

$20 total for Group Showcase if it is an additional event .

Total Entrant Numbers and Schedule: Entries will be limited by the time constraints and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.  Please enclose a self addressed stamped envelope to receive a schedule. Additional information will be available at the rink website www.steelicecenter.com.

 

Awards: Trophies will be given to 1st place and medals for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.  All other placements will receive participation                          ribbons. New this Year each skater will receive points for their team and team trophies will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd                         place teams.

 

 

Practice Ice: Practice ice will be available Saturday April 24, 2010 sessions are as follows:

8:00-8:20 am

8:20-8:40 am

8:40-9:00 am

The cost will be $7 per session and will be reserved on a first come first serve basis.

 

Directions:

                From Route 22:    Exit onto the 378 South/Bethlehem exit.  Follow 378 until the expressway ends and get in the left lane.  At the first light turn left onto Third Street.  Follow Third Street to the fourth traffic light and turn left onto Polk Street.  The Steel Ice Center is on the left at the end of Polk Street.

Basic Elements Event: SNOWPLOW SAM – BASIC 8

 

Format: Each skater will perform each element when directed by a judge or referee.

·         To be skated on 1/3 to 1/2 ice

·         No music

·         All elements must be skated in the order listed

·         Time: 1:00 or less

 

Snowplow Sam - Tots:

1.       March followed by a two foot glide and dip

2.       Forward two foot swizzles 2-3 in a row

3.       Forward snowplow stop

4.       Backward wiggles 2-6 in a row

 

 

Basic 5:

1.       Backward outside edge on a circle clockwise or counterclockwise

2.       Backward crossovers 6-8 consecutive - both directions

3.       One foot spin - minimum of three revolutions

4.       Hockey stop

5.       Side Toe hop -either direction

Format: The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted as to the number of times the element is executed or length of glides, number of revolutions, etc. unless otherwise specified.

·         To be skated on full ice

·         Vocal music is allowed

·         The skater may use elements from a previous level

·         A .2 deduction will be taken for each element performed from a higher level

·         Time:  1:00 +/- 10 seconds

 

Snowplow Sam - Tots:

Format: In program form, using a limited number of connecting steps, the skating order of the required elements is optional

·         To be skated on ˝ ice

·         No music is allowed

·         The skater must demonstrate the required elements and may use but is not required to use any additional elements from previous levels

·         A .2 deduction will be taken for each element performed from a higher level

·         Time:  1:15 or less

 

Free skate level 1 Compulsory

1.       Advanced forward stroking - 4-6 consecutive

2.       Basic forward outside edges and forward inside consecutive edges - 2-4 outside and 2-4 inside

3.       Scratch spin from backward crossovers

4.       Waltz jump from backward crossovers

5.    Half flip jump

 

Free skate level 4 Compulsory

1.       Spiral sequence, FI Spiral, FI Mohawk, BO spiral, clockwise or counter clockwise

Format: The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted as to the number of times element is executed, or length of glides, number of revolutions, etc. unless otherwise stated. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program.

  • Vocal music is allowed.
  • The skater must demonstrate the required elements and may use but is not required to use any additional elements from previous levels
  • A .2 deduction will be taken for each element performed from a higher level
  • Time 1:30+/-10sec

  1. Divide into levels according to skating level Basic 1- Freeskate 6.
  2. A minimum of three skaters on a team, each skater will do at least one required element
  3. Judging done with one mark for each element for total team points
  4. Elements used will be ones from individual Element and Compulsory events.

 

 

Interpretive Event:

] Competition Rules:

              The music will be provided for this event.  During warm-up the skaters will hear a selection of music twice.  Following the warm-up all skaters except for the first skater will be escorted to a soundproof licker room or another area of the arena.  The first skater will hear the music one more time and then perform a program to the music.  As each skater performs the next skater in line will be allowed to hear the music for the 3rd time before they perform to the music.  The listening skater will not be allowed to watch the performing skater.

] Levels:

Interpretive A  (Basic 1-4)

Interpretive B   (Basic 5-8)

Interpretive C  (Freeskate 1-3)

Interpretive D  (Freeskate 4-6)

] Judging:      Skaters will be judged on originality, pattern, technical (the ability to include skills) and music                                     interpretation/expression.

] Timing:        Music Duration:    Levels A-D 1minute 30 seconds

 

] Coaching Rules:     There is to be no instruction allowed during this event from coaches, skaters, parents, or fellow skaters. 

 

 

                                                                                                Showcase Event:

Note: Performances will be judged solely on theatrical and artistic qualities from an entertainment stand point.  Technical skating and skill difficulty are not marked.  However, the skating must be a major element of the performance and support the theatrical components chosen. For the safety of  all skaters please do not use feathers, fire, or dangling beads.   Hand held props only.  Vocal music is permitted. 

Tot – Basic 8                   Time limit 1minute.

Freeskate                         Time limit 1minute 30 seconds.

 BEGINNER SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

 

SECTION 1: EVENT RULES OVERVIEW

 

Required elements – Each level has specific required elements that must be completed:

 

BEGINNER 1 (majority under 9; 1 ˝ - 2 minutes; 8 – 16 skaters):

 

-          CIRCLE:  Include a 2-foot turn and a forward inside and/or outside edge glide

-          LINE: Cover the ice, all forward skating

-          BLOCK: Cover the ice, only 1 configuration allowed

-          WHEEL: A 4-spoke wheel with backward pumps

-          INTERSECTION: 2 lines facing each other, 2 foot glide at the point of intersection.

 

Restrictions:

-          Additional elements are not allowed

-          Holds allowed: Shoulder-to-shoulder and hand-to-hand only

-          Changes of rotational direction and traveling within elements are not allowed.

-          Steps or moves from Basic 6 or higher are not allowed

 

BEGINNER 2 (majority 9 – 11; 1 ˝ - 2 minutes; 8 – 16 skaters):

 

-          CIRCLE:  Include the combination move from Basic 8*

-          LINE: Cover the ice, may include forward and backward skating

-          BLOCK: Cover the ice, 1 or 2 configurations

-          WHEEL: Wheel of choice with backward pumps

-          INTERSECTION: 2 lines facing each other, 2- foot glide or 1-foot glide at point of intersection.

 

Restrictions:

-          Additional elements are not allowed

-          Holds allowed: Shoulder-to-shoulder and hand-to-hand only

U.S. Figure Skating and the clubs or organizers of competitions undertake no responsibility for damages or injuries suffered by the skaters or officials.  As a condition of and in consideration of the acceptance of their entries or participation therein, all entrants, their parents and guardians and officials shall be deemed to agree to assume all risks of injury to their person and property resulting from, caused by or connected with, the conduct and management of the competition, and to waive and release any and all claims which they may have against any officials, U.S. Figure Skating, the club hosting the competition, and against its officers, and their entries shall be accepted only on such condition.
